A prominent sign of ageing is that of lower face, especially the jawline. As we get older, we lose vital substances such as bone mass, muscle tone, fat, collagen and elastin.
This can mean that the supportive structure of the lower face can be compromised and the skin can become lax. This can cause sagging cheeks, jowls and a weakened jawline.
At Zuri Aesthetics in Watford, we offer dermal fillers for the jawline, to contour and revitalise the lower facial region, for those who are going through the ageing process, or even those younger patients who wish to correct a weak jawline.
Dermal fillers are injectable gel-like substances, which range in viscosity from very fluid to very thick.
They contain hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally-occurring sugar found within in the body. HA can hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water, so cushions and hydrates areas such as the joints, connective tissues, the eyes and the skin.
When an especially viscous dermal filler is injected in to the jawline, it acts to sculpt and build the contours area as well as lifting sagging skin. This creates a more youthful-looking appearance to the entire lower face.
Dermal fillers can also correct any asymmetry which may be present in the jawline or a less than attractive protrusion for a more pleasing facial profile.
After applying a topical anaesthetic cream to numb the treatment area, your Zuri Aesthetics practitioner will inject small amounts of a specially-chosen, FDA approved dermal filler for the jawline. Nowadays a cannula is most-likely used for this area, as its blunt ended shape helps to glide through skin tissues and past veins and vessels, thus minimising bruising and discomfort.
Once the dermal filler has been injected, your practitioner will mould and shape the product around your jawline to create a natural looking appearance. A jawline filler procedure should not take more than 30 minutes (negating any numbing time required) and you can return to your daily activities immediately afterwards with no clinical downtime.
You can expect to see some instant results as the dermal filler will physically augment the skin tissues. However, it’s worth considering that there may be a period of a few days where you might be a little swollen and tender around the treatment area. In general.
We advise patients to expect optimum results to be seen around 2 weeks after a jawline filler treatment. It is at this stage when you can return to the clinic for a check-up and any adjustment or additional treatment which might be required.
As dermal fillers mimic your own, naturally occurring HA, there are few to no side effects, following this treatment. You might experience some swelling and tenderness and you may see some slight bruising in the days that follow the procedure. However, using a modern cannula instead of a traditional needle for your jawline filler treatment dramatically reduces the risk of significant bruising.
Your practitioner will offer you some simple aftercare instructions, following your jawline filler treatment, which might include avoiding hot saunas, baths and steam rooms, avoiding rubbing, touching or sleeping on the treatment area for at least 48 hours, so as to minimise the risk of migration of the product.
You might also be advised to avoid strenuous exercise or contact sports, for a few days after your treatment, to allow the product to settle and integrate effectively, with the skin tissues.
Every patient and their response to HA dermal fillers is unique and different. We can advise you on how long we think your results last, based on the information you give us about your lifestyle at your initial consultation, but we can never be precise, as everyone responds to and metabolises HA differently.
If you take care of yourself, eat healthily, avoid extreme sun exposure and do not smoke, you may experience longer lasting results than someone who does some or all of these things. However, as a guide, we advise to expect your jawline filler results to last between 6 and 12 months, before a maintenance treatment is required.
