Rosacea
What is rosacea?
Restore balance to sensitive facial skin
Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that affects the central face. It develops when blood vessels become overly reactive, leading to persistent redness, flushing, visible veins, and sometimes acne-like bumps. In more advanced cases, inflammation can cause skin thickening, particularly around the nose. Dr Garara takes a personalised approach to care, combining supportive skincare with treatments like azelaic acid, ivermectin, and metronidazole, and laser therapy when persistent redness is present.

Your rosacea treatment with Dr Garara
Supportive skincare: Supportive skincare forms the foundation of rosacea management. In rosacea-prone skin, the protective barrier becomes weakened, allowing irritants and inflammatory signals to penetrate more easily. Carefully selected cleansers, moisturisers, and sunscreen help restore this barrier, reducing water loss, calming nerve endings responsible for flushing, and protecting blood vessels.
Topical medical therapies: When inflammation and acne-like lesions are present, prescription topical medications help regulate the biological processes driving rosacea. These include azelaic acid (15-20%), ivermectin (Soolantra 1%), and metronidazole (Rozex 0.75%), each targeting different aspects of the condition.
Vascular laser treatments: When rosacea causes persistent redness or visible thread veins, vascular laser treatments using Derma V can target abnormal blood vessels beneath the skin. The laser energy is absorbed by haemoglobin within the vessels, causing them to gently collapse and be reabsorbed by the body.
Ablative laser skin resurfacing: In advanced cases, ablative laser skin resurfacing may be recommended to address structural skin thickening associated with rhinophyma. Technologies such as UltraClear precisely remove excess tissue while refining the surface.
